Diagnosing menopause and blood tests:
Blood tests are rarely needed to diagnose menopause. Occasionally, they are helpful in guiding and tailoring treatment plans, or where diagnosis is not clear. They may also be helpful where diagnosis is unclear or if other conditions such as thyroid , diabetes or vitamin deficiencies are suspected.
To discuss this further, please contact our clinic to book an appointment. Our specialist can help personalise and recommend tests for your individual needs.
As well as being an Accredited Menopause Specialist, our doctor is a Gynaecology Specialist, having previously worked as a hospital gynaecologist and currently as a community gynaecology specialist. She is able to offer expertise in all gynaecological conditions including Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), menstrual and bleeding disorders, pelvic pain, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PMS); bladder and prolapse symptoms, urogynaecology, vaginal and vulval conditions.

Our specialist is highly experienced as a trained gynaecologist and therefore is able to offer fittings even in those with previous difficult or unsuccessful coil insertions.
We provide private cervical screening HPV testing. If this test comes back positive, this can be sent for more detailed testing (as is done on the NHS). This is an additional charge but is only done if medically advised by the laboratory.
If you are due your NHS screening test, we can provide your GP a copy of your results so they can keep your records updated.
Our specialist is highly experienced as a trained gynaecologist and therefore is able to offer fittings even in those with previous difficult or unsuccessful procedures.
We provide breast checks and can show you how to do a self breast examination.
If any changes are found, with your consent, we can write to your GP to be referred to an NHS breast team. If you would prefer to go privately, you can provide our letter to a private scan or breast team of your choice.
We provide a range of blood tests at the clinic including hormonal profiles, thyroid tests, iron profiles, and cardiovascular risk health checks. If this is something you would like to explore further, please discuss this at your appointment. Our specialist can recommend tests based on your specific needs.
Please note, we are not an emergency or urgent care service and therefore do not provide urgent gynaecology investigations or treatments, emergency contraception, or terminations. You may wish to explore complementary (herbal) medicines as HRT alternatives for menopausal symptom relief. We believe in a holistic approach, and our patients should explore all options right for them.
However, at Berkshire Menopause Clinic, we are not able to prescribe or promote these as very few studies can confirm their safety, they are not regulated by a medicine authority, and they are not subject to rigorous quality control.
Similar warnings are given for compounded bio-identical hormones. These are different to body-identical hormones, which mimic the body's natural hormones, are evidence based, and recommended by NICE and the BMS .
