Prolapse, Incontinence and Bladder Health FAQs
Can menopause affect bladder health?
Yes. Hormonal changes can lead to vaginal dryness, thinning and increased susceptibility to infections. They can also affect bladder health causing urine infections, and urinary symptoms such as loss of bladder control , prolapse, incontinence and comfort during intercourse. These collections of symptoms are often referred to an genitourinary symptoms of the menopause (GSM).
What treatments are available for bladder or prolapse issues?
Your treatment will be tailored to your individual symptoms and needs. This may include lifestyle advice, physiotherapy, medications, or devices such as pessaries (find out more). Surgery can be considered when it’s the right option for you, and we’ll guide you through every step so you feel informed and supported.
I keep getting urinary tract infections (UTIs). What can be done?
Recurrent UTIs are common in women, and we focus on treating both the infection and the underlying causes, as well as managing any urinary symptoms. We consider lifestyle, nutrition, bladder, and vaginal health, using antibiotics only when necessary to protect gut and vaginal balance. Treatments may include over-the-counter measures, prescription medications, and topical vaginal oestrogen. Our goal is whole-person care that keeps you healthy and reduces recurrence.
Our Henley-on-Thames Clinic is conveniently accessible to providing specialist women’s healthcare across Berkshire, Oxfordshire, and Buckinghamshire.
